There is a common misconception that it is only following the death of a loved one, that we may struggle with feelings of grief and loss.
More than just Bereavement …
While bereavement is certainly one of the most difficult situations we will ever face, we can also find ourselves struggling with grief and loss in other circumstances, particularly during periods of life transitions. Common causes of grief and loss may include:
- separation and divorce;
- losing a job or even entering retirement;
- the experience of adoption (whether birthparent, adoptee or adoptive family);
- diagnosis of a chronic or terminal illness or disability;
- significant injury;
- moving overseas;
- miscarriage; and
- learning that you are unable to have children.
It is natural to feel upset and struggle to cope with daily life in any of these situations, but if you are feeling “stuck” or the symptoms have continued unabated for some time, it is a good idea to seek professional help.
We have a number of registered psychologists and counsellors, experienced in helping people through Grief and Loss.
